SUBSTRATE MATERIALS
Galaxy Optics uses only the finest quality precision annealed PYREX 7740 low expansion glass. Each substrate is custom manufactured to our exact specifications including testing under polarized laser light for internal strain and striae. Our precision annealed Pyrex glass exhibits higher thermal stability over fine and coarse annealed materials. The glass cools and heats evenly without developing localized hot spots. The greater stability allows for a higher quality optical figuring in the shop and improved performance in direct use. Each optic comes with a precision annealing certificate supplied by our glass fabricator. Primary and secondary optics are free of any chipped edges or cosmetic defects. ARCTM OPTICAL COATINGS

25 f5 Being Loaded into the Optical Coating Chamber High quality reflective optical coatings are critically important to the performance of your Newtonian telescope. Galaxy Optics installed a $250,000 optical thin film coating system to meet this important requirement. The system was specifically designed for coating large telescope optics. The thin film coating system features finished optical coatings that are better than 98% uniform or less than 1/100 wave center to edge thickness variation for an optical coating 270.0nM thick (Based on 2% of 532.0nM wavelength). The “ARC” (Activated Reactive Coating) process technology employed in Galaxy Optics coatings guarantees 100% oxidation of the dielectric refractory materials and extinction coefficients less than 0.001. The ARC feature produces dielectric materials that are “Super Hard” and “Totally Transparent”. Galaxy Optics coatings are durable, brilliant and free of coloration (uniform).
Today there is an incredible amount of misinformation about optical coatings. Do not cheat yourself out of a top quality, extremely-low scatter, highly uniform and highly reflective optical coating because some other optics fabricator has problems with their coating laboratory. The bottom line is…Galaxy Optics’ C-1 and C-2 optical coatings are the best available. No other optical coating offers so much. Coating Chamber Mechanical

EDF Optical Coating Laser Ellipsometer for Optical Thin Film Thickness Measurements

Galaxy Optics also offers “Custom Optical Coatings.” Utilizing our thin film design software we can create a thin film optical coating to meet your wavelength specifications from the UV to IR.
Standard Galaxy Optics Optical Coatings:

C-1  96% Reflectivity Enhanced Aluminum 3 Dielectric Layers over Aluminum with a top sealing layer of pure quartz.

C-2  98% Reflectivity Enhanced Aluminum 5 Dielectric Layers over Aluminum with a top sealing layer of pure quartz. Available on EDF optics only.

Galaxy Optics offers optical recoating services for 16.0" to 25.0" diameter primary mirrors. Please contact Galaxy Optics for a quotation.

Galaxy Optics has the right raw materials, optical coatings, tools, technology and knowledge to do the job right every time...and we do!
